The Bambu Fund has entered a formal memorandum of understanding with the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) to develop 100 acres across St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John, in support of the University’s new medical school campus and medical tourism initiatives. The agreement establishes a formal public-private partnership (P3). Our initial venture centers around master planning a 65-acre site to provide faculty and staff housing, graduate student apartments and senior living. Currently under construction, the University of the Virgin Islands School of Medicine (UVI) open to all, is being developed in part to address the need for physicians of African descent. The Fund is committed to invest at levels and to draw the resources necessary to insure proper accreditation and ongoing support. In addition to its programs with institutions on the U.S. mainland, the University of the Virgin Islands School of Medicine is exploring programs that touch Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Panama and Ghana.
